Target Audience

This program is designed for general dentists and specialists who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in dental sleep medicine, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and orofacial pain.

Course Description

Our two-day continuing dental education program provides an evidence-based comprehensive review of Dental Sleep Medicine, Temporomandibular Disorders, and Orofacial Pain within a structured curriculum. Led by a multidisciplinary faculty, the course emphasizes current scientific evidence, recognized diagnostic frameworks, and clinically applicable treatment protocols.

Sovna S. Mistra

Dr. Sovna S. Mishra is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Orofacial Pain at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She has developed focused expertise in oral medicine, oral radiology and orofacial pain management through integrated academic, clinical and research roles. Her advanced training encompasses the diagnosis and management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, facial and neuropathic pain, and a broad range of complex orofacial pain conditions.

Patricia Guererro

DDS. D, ABOP

Dr. Guerrero graduated from the Orofacial Pain Residency Program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), where she also received extensive training in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is also a faculty member of Tufts’ Continuing Education Mini-Residency Programs (TMD and Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine). Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Assistant Professor at the Craniofacial Pain Center at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Noah Siegel

MD. D, ABSM

Dr. Siegel is Board Certified in both Sleep Medicine and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.  Dr. Siegel serves as the Director of Sleep Medicine and Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School.  He is the Medical Director of Otolaryngology for Massachusetts Eye and Ear’s Longwood facility in Boston and is clinical faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Founder and CEO- Orofacial Sleep Consortium- Global. Dr. Leopoldo Correa incorporated the teaching of Dental Sleep Medicine into Tufts University School of Dental Medicine undergraduate and graduate programs, and developed several continuing education courses, including the Temporomandibular Disorders Mini-Residency, the Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency, the Comprehensive Introduction to Dental Sleep Medicine and the Mini-Residency in Sleep Medicine in Pediatric Dentistry.

Identify key screening signs, symptoms, and risk factors for sleep-related breathing disorders.

Perform a structured clinical examination for  sleep disorders, TMD and orofacial pain, including targeted history, pain assessment, and musculoskeletal evaluation.

Discuss the indications, limitations, and potential adverse effects of oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea, and describe principles of appliance design and titration.

Describe conservative, reversible, and evidence-based management strategies for common TMD and orofacial pain conditions, including when to refer to other providers.

  • Sleep physiology and pathophysiology of  obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Role and scope of the dentist in dental sleep medicine, within current guidelines.
  • Evidence-based review of screening approaches in dental practice.

Temporomandibular Disorders & Orofacial Pain: Core Concepts

  • Overview of classification systems for TMD and orofacial pain.
  • Introduction to recognized diagnostic frameworks and their clinical relevance.
  • Structured history-taking, pain assessment tools, and patient examination.

Examination & Diagnostic Tools – Workshop / Demonstration

  • Step-by-step clinical examination for TMD and orofacial pain: joint, muscle, and functional assessment.
  • Evaluation of the upper airway, craniofacial morphology, and occlusal factors relevant to sleep-disordered breathing.
  • Overview of sleep testing modalities  and interpretation considerations in a dental context, with emphasis on appropriate collaboration with physicians.
