Mentorship Program Session. March 18th,2026.

The Mentorship Program session focused on strengthening the dentist’s clinical and analytical role in the management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), with particular emphasis on the interpretation of polysomnography (PSG) and its clinical implications.
The session provided a structured approach to understanding sleep study reports, including key parameters such as the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), oxygen desaturation levels, sleep stages, arousal index, and respiratory events. Participants were guided on how to correlate these findings with clinical presentations in order to better identify disease severity and contribute meaningfully to patient management.
Special attention was given to how dentists can use PSG results to determine candidacy for oral appliance therapy (OAT), monitor treatment outcomes, and communicate effectively with sleep physicians. The importance of recognizing red flags, understanding limitations of the data, and ensuring appropriate referral and follow-up was also emphasized.
Overall, the session reinforced the value of advanced training and mentorship in Dental Sleep Medicine, empowering dentists to take a more active, informed, and collaborative role in the comprehensive care of patients with OSA.
